Turkish Airlines Yields To Nigeria’s Demand On Pax Luggage

Turkish Airlines has eventually complied with the demand of Federal Government of Nigeria through the Federal Ministry of Aviation’s demand to sort out the protracted issue concerning luggage delay of Nigeria-bound passengers from Istanbul, Turkey. The yield came after the airline was served a suspension notice when it was not forthcoming despite several attempts.

Sen. Hadi Sirika, Minister of Aviation
The Minster of Aviation, Sen. Hadi Sirika during the weekend attested to the fact the airline operated a bigger aircraft to nip the challenge in the bud completely.

“Turkish Air operated A330 to Abuja today as against the small B737 in apparent response to our suspension order, we needed not to get to this,” said Sirika on his twitter handle @hadisirika.

Explaining the process leading to the airline’s response to the voice of the government of Nigeria, the regulatory body under the ministry, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority through a statement said: “Consequent upon the suspension of Turkish Airlines operations into Nigeria, the Acting Director General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) Capt. Abdullahi Sidi, met with the management of Turkish Airlines at the NCAA Office in Abuja on Friday.”

Sam Adurogboye, the General Manager Public Relations of NCAA who signed the statement further said, “At the end of the meeting, the Airline’s executives pledged to commence immediately freight of all left over passengers’ baggage in Turkey to Nigeria.”

Turkish Airline gave timeline to clearing of backlogs of delayed baggage of passengers in question, Adurogboye said ‘it will be achieved by instantly upgrading the Boeing 737 – 800 being used and found inadequate to a larger Airbus A 330 and Boeing 737 – 900.’

“The programme of clearance will be carried out from 13th to 17th December, 2019,” said NCAA.

Turkish Airlines operations into Nigeria would have been suspended by NCAA from the 16th December 2019, if the right size of aircraft is not deployed to the service of Nigerians at all airports in the country.

“The Regulatory Authority anticipates strict compliance to this remedial programme and warns all operators to ensure Nigerians are not taken for granted by providing safe, secure and efficient service at all times.
